MARFA – Marfa 4-H News and Notes members of the Marfa 4-H Club participated in the “Don’t Mess With Texas Program” on Saturday March 23 by picking up trash along the two miles along Highway 90.
“Community Service and using our ‘Hands to Larger Service’ is an important part of the 4-H Program,” said County Extension Agent, Jesse Lea Schneider. “A big thank you to all the members, parents and leaders that volunteered their time to help.” After the highway cleanup, the group traveled to the Presidio County Ag Barn for cleanup efforts in preparation for the upcoming County Fair.
Upcoming deadlines for the Marfa 4-H Club include:
Steer Tag Order: April 15, 2013 for steers to be shown in the 2014 stock shows.
Lamb and Meat Goat State Fair Tag Order Deadline: April 15th, 2013 for all lambs or meat goats to be shown at the 2013 State Fair.
Swine State Fair Tag Order Deadline: April 15th, 2013 for all lambs or meat goats to be shown at the 2013 State Fair.
All tags are $9.00 each with checks written to the Marfa 4-H Club. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this deadline and all orders must be made at the Extension Office.
Horse Validation: If you plan to show a horse at the DISTRIC OR STATE 4-H Horse Shows all horses MUST be validated by May 1st via 4-H Connect. If you were enrolled in the system by your County Agent you MUST validate your horse in the Extension Office.
Presidio County Fair will be held April 13th at the Presidio County Ag Barn. For information please contact: LouAnn Underwood at 432-386-7023.
There will also be a Youth team roping on April 13th. Roping is for anyone age 17 and under. Three head for $30 a team/ progressive after one. Books open at 10am, roping at 11am. The roping will be held at the Marfa County Arena on golf course road.
District VI Roundup Entry Deadline: Via 4-H Connect by April 15th, 2013.
Vocal, Instrumental, Professional Speaking, Public Speaking, Arts and Crafts, etc. are some of the contests available at the District Roundup.
Again, if you were enrolled in the system by your County Agent, you MUST enter these contests in the Extension Office. The District VI Roundup will be held in Garden City on April 27.
The next meeting of the Marfa 4-H Club will be Monday April 1st at 5:30pm. All members interested in running for an office for the 2013-14 4-H Year are asked to present a speech to the club titled, “Why do I want to be a Marfa 4-H Officer?”
Elections will be held at the May meeting and newly elected officers will be sent, free of charge, to a Leadership Camp this summer due to the generosity of the Marfa History Club.
Upcoming events include: District Contests, Presidio County 4-H Recognition Banquet, Outdoor Education Project, Shooting Sports Project, Summer Camps, Summer Leadership Labs, and summer projects.
