Marfa High School students Tony Lopes, Dakota Wilbourn, Ricardo Velasquez, Tim Flores, Jesus Molinar, Principal Cyndi Wimberly, and students Orlando Sanchez and Adrian Delgado recently planted a desert willow in memory of lifelong Marfa educator Queenie Steen, who died January 15. The tree was donated by Bandera Middle School educators and colleagues of Jettie Whitlock, Queenie’s daughter and a former Marfa educator as well. The tree came from Alice Stevens of One-Way Nursery in Alpine.
