CORPUS CHRISTI – Presidio High School Advanced Welding and Auto Tech students competed at the Texas SkillsUSA State Championships in Corpus Christi April 4 – 7.
“They did a fine job of representing the Blue Devils and brought home the Blue Ribbons to prove it,” said teacher Randall Cater.
The team of David Tavarez, Aldo Perez, Jose Lara, and Jesus Barrientos scored Blue with their wood-topped cow-skull tables, which also won ribbons for “Best of Show” in welded steel furniture.
Alexis Hernandez, Ali Sigala, and Nathan Baeza won a Blue Ribbon with their horse-themed bench.
Jesus Bujanda, Fernando Carrizales, and Magaly Mendoza took Blue with their horseshoe-trimmed bench.
Ablyn Carrasco, Alejandro Hernandez, and Justin Hankins brought home the Blue with their Heavy-Metal trailer.
Emilio Lujan, Jose Baeza, and Alan Nieto scored a Blue Ribbon for their motorcycle wheel-truing stand that showed off the Harley-Davidson spoked wire wheel they laced and trued.
Saturday, April 13 found Presidio High School Advanced Welding students competing in the Ag Mechanics division of the Presidio County Fair in Marfa.
Kevin Tarango, Jose Sotelo, and Sergio Baeza won 1st Place in the Cookers & BBQ Pit division with their octagonal steel pit and accompanying butcher-block side table.
Magaly Mendoza, Fernando Carrizales, and Jesus Bujanda took 2nd place in the Home Ammenities division with their steel and cedar patio bench.
Ablyn Carrasco, Alejandro Hernandez, and Justin Hankins received 2nd place in the Trailer division with their cedar and steel light utility trailer.
