MARFA – Marfa student Judith Loya won the Annual Student Arts Juried Exhibit at Sul Ross, by taking First Place and the “People’s Choice” Award for her painting “Raramuri Woman.”

Alex Costea took second place and Jami Turner, third place. There were four honorable mentions: Charles P. Carter, Mariah Williams, George C. Vaughn, and Mark Bradford.

The artwork will be on display until April 12 in the Francois Fine Arts Building on campus.

The awards reception was held April 4. Prizes were $100 for first place, $75 for second place, $50 for third place, and merchandise awards for “People’s Choice.”

Students could enter up to three artworks, but were not guaranteed to get into the show.

The three jurors, Ellen Meyers Madrid, Avram Dumitrescu, and Carol Fairlie, selected the works in the show and the cash awards.

The “People’s Choice” award was given based on popular vote.
